When Gippsland Orthodontics engaged Elite Fitout to transform a circa 1909 period residential dwelling into a modern orthodontic clinic, we were presented with a unique opportunity: honour the historical charm of the property while creating a functional, technologically advanced space. Located in Warragul, Victoria, this iconic home offered a wealth of character, from its pressed metal 12-foot ceilings to its leadlight feature entry door.

The Design Vision

Our brief was to create a contemporary orthodontic practice that celebrated the heritage of the original dwelling while blending it with Scandinavian-inspired elegance and European sophistication. The design embraces clean lines and neutral palette, seamlessly integrating into the existing elegance of the building. Gippsland Orthodontics’ branding, characterised by a timeless palette of charcoal, mid-grey, and soft nude pink, served as refined inspiration.

Reception & Waiting Area

The original living room with its stunning pressed metal ceiling was repurposed as the reception and waiting area. To preserve the room’s grandeur, we integrated a grounding reception desk in deep charcoal with brass accents, which echoed the clinic’s branding. Behind the desk, brass signage added a sophisticated statement.

Consultation Rooms

In the consultation rooms, functionality and aesthetics were meticulously balanced. We selected a terrazzo-inspired coved vinyl flooring in a neutral palette, offering durability and a striking design feature.

Sleek, all-white joinery with integrated lip pulls and white plumbing fixtures provided a clean and contemporary look, while the soft nude pink and mid-grey tones were introduced subtly through accent decor and seating to align with the branding. Custom timber desks, designed to resemble modern furniture pieces, added warmth to these spaces with their woodgrain finishes.

Treatment Areas

The treatment areas were designed for efficiency and flow while ensuring a welcoming and comfortable environment. We introduced warm timber floors to ground the space and added a horizontal grey design line along the walls that connected seamlessly with the joinery.

Grey base cabinets were paired with white overhead cabinetry, accented by brass handles, creating a timeless yet practical workspace. Custom partitions with built-in bench seating between treatment bays provided clear visual access for practitioners, maintained patient privacy, and offered seating for accompanying guests.

Key Details

Thoughtful design elements throughout the practice tied the spaces together while adding moments of interest and functionality:

• Teeth Brushing Station: Featuring accent tiles and pink specialty tapware, these stations offer a playful yet refined nod to the branding.
• Lighting: Decorative white and brass ceiling lights were chosen to blend contemporary elegance with the historical charm of the dwelling.
• Brass Accents: Consistent use of brass hardware across doors, cabinetry, and signage added a touch of grandeur and refinement.
• Custom Furniture: Bespoke timber furniture pieces, such as the doctor’s desk, provided warmth and a cohesive aesthetic across the clinic.

Materials & Finishes

We selected materials that aligned with the clinic’s branding and were practical for a healthcare setting:

• Colour Palette: The charcoal, grey, and nude pink tones were used in varying intensities to define each area, creating distinct yet cohesive zones.
• Brand Alignment: All materials and finishes referenced the branding package, ensuring the space felt consistent and purpose-driven.

The result is a clinic that seamlessly merges historical charm with modern functionality. Gippsland Orthodontics is now a thriving, welcoming space for patients and staff, offering a design that honours its past while meeting the demands of a cutting-edge medical practice.
