A New Lease On Life: J R Howard Dental Fitout

When J R Howard Dental was completely destroyed by flooding, the practice was forced to occupy a temporary environment until the situation began to improve.

Elite became involved with the fitout of what was to become the brand new J R Howard Dental practice in the same location – a busy Brisbane CBD building. Elite’s Client Services Manager, Damien, was very mindful of the impact this traumatic event had on the client and made it a priority to ensure that the new fitout of the practice was a stress-free, straightforward experience.

During the fitout, J R Howard Dental operated via a leased chair in a friend’s practice, allowing the practice to continue trading. Throughout the 6-week period of the refurbishment, Elite delivered 2 dental chairs, a sterilisation room, a storeroom, an office, a small plant room, and staff facilities and general front-of-house areas that included a reception and waiting room.  

Elite navigated numerous environmental challenges, and ensured minimal noise disruptions as the building housed serviced apartments and retail suites. Additionally, due to the site’s location, there was no street parking and deliveries had to be scheduled either early in the morning or late at night.

The building itself is heritage-listed and it was crucial that this was taken into consideration in the project’s design. Due to the fragile nature of the building foyer’s interior, materials were provided to the site by scaling the fire escape. Clear communication was imperative in coordinating this project. The Elite team made a point of liaising with the hotel manager, residential tenants and the café below to ensure they were given advance notice of the work that would be carried out.

Elite completed the project on time, within budget and, ultimately, to the complete satisfaction of the client who is elated with his brand new dental practice.
