Elite recently completed the construction of a new building for Torenbeek Vet Clinic in Rockhampton.
The new facility is double the size of the previous vet clinic. The improved function and flow will mean the busy clinic will be able to better service their client base.
In the reception area, there are separate dog and cat waiting areas both inside and outside, and a retail area for pet supplies. The cool lilac tones of the walls accentuate the white tones of the reception desk and pendant lights flood the area with diffused light.
The staff break room and vet’s office feature a calming outlook into the private staff-only courtyard.
Torenbeek Vet Clinic in Rockhampton was started in the late 70’s and was run as a partnership for many years out of a converted house with Lester Torenbeek and Terry Fisher.
In 2010, David Skilling was employed in his first job at Torenbeek and became a partner in 2015. Lester retired in 2015 and David took over the running of the business alongside Terry Fisher. Terry’s wife Sarah Fisher, also a vet, worked at the Torenbeek clinic alongside Terry and David.
The original facility was smaller and a lot of areas needed to be used for multiple purposes. For example, consult rooms would be converted to treatment areas. Staff facilities, cage space and parking were also issues at the previous location – all items that have been resolved with the new-build project.
A block of land became available for sale a few hundred metres from the old facility and the vision for the new clinic started to take shape.
Fast forward to June 2020 and the new vet clinic is humming along as if it’s been there for years. The owners of the new facility – Dr David Skilling and Dr Sarah Fisher – are very pleased with the results of the new build. Sarah wanted a lot of natural light to flow into the new clinic and this has been achieved with large windows in the reception and waiting areas.
The clinic features 3 consult rooms, 1 consult/grieving room and separate cat and dog wards, as well as dog runs. There are 2 surgeries, steri, imaging, lab, pharmacy, treatment and recovery/ISO areas.
As with most vet clinics, the new clinic features a grieving room. This room was designed with the client in mind to have a space for reflection. There is also the choice to leave via the courtyard rather than through the waiting area.
The indoor and outdoor waiting areas are perfect for busy times as well as difficult times for patients.
We are thrilled with the job done by Elite Fitout on our new vet clinic. The design and building processes were expertly handled by their team from start to finish. – Dr Eloise Skilling
