Today’s Dentistry: A Dental Practice Inspired By Nature, Health and Well-being

Today's Dentistry fitout

Today’s Dentistry recently relocated to Chermside after 30 years in the one location in north Brisbane.   They engaged Elite under a construction management contract and the Elite team worked closely with Today’s Dentistry and ABM Architects to complete the project.

This was the second time the client had engaged Elite for their dental practice fitout.

Today's Dentistry reception

The Elite team fitted out the new 8-chair facility featuring OPG and CBCT operations. The clinic has a state-of-the-art laboratory workshop with a 3D printer, sterilisation room, refresh rooms, offices and staff facilities.

Due to the complexity of the work on the ground floor of a multi-storey building, a transparent communication flow throughout construction was imperative throughout the project. This helped to meet the client’s needs, resulting in construction cost savings.

Dr Darryl Marsh commented that they found “Elite’s level of professionalism and honesty to be without question”.

Clinic Design

The design of the practice was inspired by the client’s passion for “biophilic design”. This design concept recognises an innate connection with nature and incorporates natural elements into the built environment in an effort to improve health and well-being.  The warm and friendly setting features an efficient functional layout. The layout meets current best practice in the dentistry sector, providing a quality care environment for patients.

Patient treatment rooms were meticulously designed to meet functional needs of the treating practitioners. They also provide privacy and natural light for patients. Sterilisation rooms and laboratories feature industry-leading technology and services to seamlessly complement operations.

Through creative planning, spaces that are deep within the clinic have external views. The open central arbour arcade simplifies circulation, providing natural orientation and wayfinding for all. Simplicity in circulation and wayfinding reduces stress and anxiety of visitors. The large range of patient spaces with varying degrees of scale supports the practical and emotional needs of the patients.

The reception and waiting areas are welcoming and opulent. They feature muted green tones with grey accents that are calming and stylish. A selection of different sized pendant lights feature throughout the waiting area, creating a warm ambience. The frosted glass windows provide privacy from the outside pathway to the clinic as well as adding an element of interest to the area.

The use of natural finishes, textures and colours draw inspiration from the Queensland environment to create a relaxed and open space. These design features reinforce the biophilic design concept throughout the practice.

Today's Dentistry wall art

Original artwork adorns the walls of Today’s Dentistry, the work of the photography student Linus Marsh, who is the son of one of the practice owners – Dr. Darryl Marsh. The photos feature landscapes and other natural elements, complementing the clinic’s colour scheme.
