Brisbane Dental Practice Extension Project

Brisbane dental practice fitout

Back in 2015 Elite worked with Pure Dentistry to fit out their 82sqm premises with two dental surgeries, staff, sterilisation/lab room and reception waiting area.  Six years later, Pure Dentistry again engaged Elite, this time to increase the size of their Brisbane dental practice footprint to 187sqm and modify the entire clinic to achieve a better workflow.

The extension of the clinic has increased the number of surgeries to five, with an additional and larger sterilisation area.   There is now room for CBCT and CEPH systems, office and staff areas. The reception desk is larger and has space for an additional staff member.

Staged Construction Plan

The key challenge of the project was achieving a seamless integration of the existing practice with the new extension.

Elite commenced construction in the empty adjacent tenancy. In this stage, three new dental surgeries, steri, CBCT/CEPH area, office and staff facilities were added. This stage also included a new medical gas plant room, and the expansion of the existing dental equipment plant room in the basement car park.

Upon completion of the first stage, work commenced on the new reception and waiting areas. To ensure the practice continued operating and to complete work on the second stage, a temporary waiting/reception area and entrance were established.  Directional signage was also used to secure safe entry and exit by patients.

The final stage involved a refurbishment of the existing practice.  This included the installation of acoustic wall panels, new lighting, ceilings, and a fresh coat of paint to unify the look of the whole clinic.

Pure Dentistry Owner – Ian Mason was happy to discuss some of the details of the project:

Elite are familiar with the construction sequence, which is very important.   They listened to us (didn’t give us too many options to confuse us) in design, and planning was good.   I wouldn’t change the process at all.

Interior Design

The waiting area has been reconfigured to provide better flow for patients. The reception desk features mason oak timber battens highlighted by under-cabinet lighting, and complemented by a bright white countertop. The battens are also used as a feature wall behind the divan seating in the waiting area.

Furnishings

The furnishings in the waiting area are in pale and darker greys. The reception area features pale timber flooring and plush, light-coloured carpeting in the main waiting area by the large windows. The key highlight in the waiting area is the fish tank which provides a calming feel to the space.

Striking Design Features

Acoustic wall panels were added in the hallway to buffer any noise as well as provide a stylish feature for patients to view on the way to their appointment. Cool colours, light timber flooring, downlights and under cabinet lighting feature prominently throughout the entire clinic.

In the dental surgeries, the rich purple colour of the dental furniture add pops of colour to the clinic, accentuated by the under cabinet lighting and skylights.

A picture paints a thousand words.  I always show people the photos of my practice.  No need to explain when something is so good.
